Road deformation due to vehicle loadGranite slabs used as road surfaces move like individual rocker arms when loaded. The shear forces at the abutting edges can damage the panels. The natural surface structure of the panels suffices as a sample for measuring areal deformation measurements. Using the Q400 3D-DIC system, the displacements in the plane (x-y) and out of the plane are measured with high spatial resolution and 3D accuracy. This application example shows that camera measurement technology can be used to assess the mechanical strength of roads regardless of the type of surface (tar, concrete, paving). |
