Full field 3D Vibration measurement in the wind tunnel

The vibration of a car door in the wind tunnel is measured with the Q400 Highspeed DIC System. The modal shape is calculated from the spatially resolved 3D displacement. The color overlay shows the modal shape of the vibration. The measurement resolution is a few µm (micrometers).

This application example in the field of vibration analysis shows that a DIC system with two cameras with can be used for 3D vibration measurement. Compared to a laser interferometer, the dynamic and static deformation components can be separated.
